Описание к видео How Frontier Settlers Built Dugout Canoes to Conquer America’s Rivers

The American continent. A vast wilderness. For the first European
settlers, it was a world without roads, without bridges, without
maps. A world where the only highways were the rivers.
To conquer America, you had to conquer its rivers. But how?
Birchbark canoes were too fragile for rocky, turbulent rivers.
European planked boats were too heavy, too slow. The answer was
a vessel carved from a single, massive tree. The dugout canoe.
But how did a lone frontiersman, with nothing but an axe, transform
a multi-ton giant of the forest into a sleek watercraft? What
forgotten techniques allowed them to create these masterpieces of
primitive engineering? The answer is a story of fire, of patience, and
of a deep understanding of the natural world.
My name is Sam, and this is Wild America
