This is why I went to Italy, to explore Opera 10, Mussolini's Alpine Bunker Complex, it was never used in war actions.
All up there are 26 Italian bunker complexes built on the "non-trust line", All called Opera, Opera 10 may not be the biggest, but it's the best preserved.
Beautiful and imposing structure belonging to the Alpine wall built around 1939 for defensive purposes by Mussolini (so-called "non-trust" line) to prevent Nazi access to the Veneto. There are also other barriers in this area. Opera 10 is very well preserved.
The entrance had been walled but now partially demolished and therefore accessible. There are no objective dangers within. It serves a sweatshirt because the temperature is around 10 degrees even in summer, and one or two stacks better in that the inside is completely dark. There are more stairs as the fort is on three levels. Access is from the middle floor. Be careful because it is easy to become disoriented and lost. (Yes I did get lost, and was lost for over a hour).
On the wall there are numerous indication arrows. Consider more reliable the red arrows marked with brush. The other arrows were made over the years by the usual jokers and indicate the exact opposite. Along the interior tunnel you reach the end of the mountain but the only output is the one from which it is accessed. The turrets are protected by metal grids and lead only to the watch points necessary at the time to guard access to the Alpine crossing from above.
It is remarkable both for the size both in terms of historical and cultural aspect. It is a pity that it is not maintained to make it known to those who have an interest: no signboard, no panel indicating the history, the plan, the reason why an impressive military post was built at that altitude. Many other war relics, although belonging to the period of the First World War were excavated, cleaned and restored. This no! No prohibition sign is currently present even if the demolished masonry suggests something else. Inside the various corridors are blocked by armored today oxidized doors left open, which served, together with the various air intakes, to guarantee the exchange of air and the recirculation while shooting.
I was very excited having been there.
