In a contest that was messy even by the admittedly loose standards of competitive eating, seven top eaters squared off at NewYork's Grand Central Station.

The winner: Joey Chestnut, a 23-year old engineering student from San Jose, California. He ate a record 7-point-oh-five pounds of medium-hot wings.

Chestnut beat his nearest competitor, Sonya Thomas, who competes under the sobriquet 'The Black Widow' by more than a pound.
