Story
Gary Screams for You is a meditation on psychosis. If forced into the confines of genre, it is equal parts psychedelic noir and mental health comedy. It is a lifestyle, an entity, a cathartic virus infecting those who take part in it and allowing them to become a part of its healing experience. It's a Chicago story, deeply enshrined in the enigmatic labyrinth-like locales and colorful tensions of this wild city.
It's a stirring, complex, cutting look at our culture's relationship to mental health, neurodiversity, and why we use words like "crazy" to define things we don't understand. It's a cry for help, a love letter, a Greek tragedy, a superhero origin story, an ode to madness.
It's a short film and spec for a feature, to be articulated with full artistic freedom and articulation in its short form while simultaneously offering investors a taste of what kind of highly entertaining delicious visceral feast the feature will be.

In summation: it's multifaceted. It has depth. It reflects- and it has been worked on, cared for, cultivated, and loved by so many people- over a year before even the beginning of this fundraising campaign.


Did a person who had undergone a psychotic episode write, star, or direct academy award winner A Beautiful Mind? How about the writer, director, or star of Shutter Island? How about those involved in the film Take Shelter? Sucker Punch? Love and Mercy? The Soloist? Had any of those involved experienced psychosis? Not openly, at least.

Gary Screams for You is a film about Gary, an undiagnosed, unmedicated bipolar guy, who experiences his first manic and psychotic episode and how it changes the world around him.
