The Stockholm Royal Seaport is a former brownfield area which is undergoing one of Europe’s largest redevelopments and it's happening using high sustainability standards. At Kollkajen, where the ships came and the coal was unloaded, the City of Stockholm has carried out a tremendous transformation to remediate the soil and groundwater.

Special attention has been to in-situ remediation, as opposed to the traditional way of excavating the soil. This has saved a lot of transportation and it has reduced noise and combustion emissions as a result.

The remediation of the land has made it possible to build residential buildings. Today, about 7,000 people are living in this area. And it's full of green and blue infrastructure, which plays a key role in recreation, biological diversity and stormwater management and supports the health and well-being of their residents.
