Welcome to an exploration of the Book of Isaiah, one of the most significant texts in the Jewish Bible, also known as the Old Testament, or the TaNaK.
Isaiah, a prophet from the 8th century BC, was commissioned by God to deliver urgent messages to the children of Israel. At a time when Israel was steeped in moral and spiritual decay, Isaiah stood as a beacon of divine warning and hope. He warned the children of Israel to not follow the wicked ways of their fathers before them, but to place their trust and faith in the One Lord, the Saviour of Jerusalem. Isaiah was also instructed to inform the Isrealites of the future coming of one to be known as Imanuel, who is to be born of a virgin, and who is to be a beacon of light to the gentiles (non-jewish nations). This prophecy was told 700 years before Jesus, and seems to accurately predict Jesus' birth, and the beginning of the Christian faith.
Isaiah also warns Israel that if they do not turn to the Lord their God, the nations of the world, to include Palestine (Philistines) and Assyria (Syria) would be sent by the Lord to go to war with them. The Lord is known in the Jewish bible as the Lord of Hosts, in that he controls the nations of the world like chess pieces. Historically, whenever the children of Israel go astray in the Hebrew Bible, God sends other nations to go to war with them, like in the case of the Babylonian exile. Events like this took place when Israel began to worship god's of their own making over worshipping the One Lord of Israel, the Holy One.
About Isaiah and His Time
Isaiah son of Amoz lived during a tumultuous period in Israel's history, encompassing the reigns of multiple kings and fraught with invasions from foreign powers. More than just a prophet, Isaiah was a social critic, a moral compass, and a poet whose writings have influenced religious thought for over two millennia.
Messages of Doomsday and Hope in Salvation
Isaiah’s prophecies oscillate between apocalyptic warnings and uplifting messages of future redemption. He was sent to warn Israel of the catastrophic consequences that awaited them if they continued on their path of iniquity. His words were not just cautionary tales but also messages of hope, pointing to the coming of the Messiah who would bring salvation not only to Israel but also to the entire world.
In this video, we delve into key quotes from the Book of Isaiah, a book revered by Christians, Jews, and Muslims, that speak of Israel's potential doom and the coming of the Messiah. This information is not to incite fear, nor to claim a side to the Israeli - Palestinian conflict, but it is to bring awareness to the word of the Lord. I am heart broken at the loss of life on both sides of the Israeli - Palestinian conflict, and I pray to the Lord that we can overcome these dark times and find peace in our common shared humanity. Sincerely, peace be with you all, no matter what race, creed, or religion you follow. My love goes out to all who are facing hard times.
God bless, and peace be with you.
