Kosmischer Läufer - ‘Finsternis’ (1979)

Описание к видео Kosmischer Läufer - ‘Finsternis’ (1979)

While he worked as a sound editor for DEFA (Deutsche Film-Aktiengesellschaft), Martin Zeichnete spent eleven years leading a secret, parallel life writing electronic music to train and inspire East Germany’s athletic elite. Alongside project Kosmischer Läufer Martin used unsupervised late night studio sessions to record his own, more personal work. Side one of this record contains a selection of these tracks. This is track 3 - ‘Finsternis’.
A note on the artwork for the upcoming ‘Track Club EP’.
Martin was inspired to write the brooding, ominous ‘Finsternis’ (1979) while reflecting on a strange memory from his childhood.
In 1961 his paternal grandfather took the then 10 year old Martin on a trip to Bulgaria where they observed the February 1961 solar eclipse. After the unnerving experience of totality and the sight of the Sun’s corona Martin experienced a dreamlike vision of strange objects falling to Earth as the light returned. The sight was so surreal Martin is unsure if he actually saw something that day or if he created it in his mind years later. From his description of the objects and with a little artistic licence we created the artwork for this EP.

As an aside the 1961 movie ‘Barabbas’ filmed the crucifixion scene in the shadow of this eclipse. The schedule was delayed to capture it as it passed over Italy.

The ‘Track Club EP’ is out on 06/09/2024. On Transparent ‘Corona Orange’ Vinyl from Bandcamp – Download + Streaming everywhere else.
