Lake Koorkoordine is a Salt Lake system about 6kms north of Southern Cross in the Wheatbelt of W.A. Interestingly the golf course is adjacent to the lake, just to the west. Lake Koorkoordine is named after the Aboriginal words Koorkoor, meaning ’meat’ and dine, meaning ‘place of’.
I passed through this fascinating place on my trip through the Wheatbelt in late September, and I decided to stop and have a walk to break up my driving. There's a bit of history about the place too, with "Hunts Well" or " Hunts Soak" a well constructed in 1865, one of many used by past travellers and settlers as a water source. This place is a top spot for photography and bird watching, and I was lucky enough to visit with still many wildflowers in bloom from the excellent 2022 Wildflower season we've had this year!
