"He (Sheikh Yassin) was the struggling Sheikh - the Sheikh of Palestine - the founder of the Islamic Resistance Movement - the was the address of this nation's dignity and the dignity of the Palestinian people - he live the struggle and lived for the cause of the Palestinian people and for Jerusalem and Al Aqsa mosque - this is the moment he wished for - the Sheikh of Palestine - he's a martyr but the Zionist enemy must understand the Palestinians will turn into a volcano of hell in the face of this aggressive enemy - the martyrdom of Sheikh Yassin will bring life to the Palestinian people, to Palestine and Jerusalem and to this whole nation."

In Jerusalem, in al Aqsa . So they are not assassinating Sheikh Ahmed Yassin only, but they are trying to assassinate everything. Now we are saying to the murderers, to the terrorists, the war is opened. There will be no one (not only one) revenge, no one revenge. It's an opened war. I know they will succeed in assassinating the political leaders, the military leaders, but they will not keep security only outside our room."

"This is another major Israeli political assasination that all the Palestinian people and their authority condemn, and look at as a crime. We think that this significant move is going to be responsible for further fuelling of the ongoing vicious circle of violence. It is going to instigate more and more anger and spirit of revenge among the Palestinian people. It's about time that Israel should learn that the policy of assassinations is not going to bring neither the Palestinians nor the Israelis nearer to their objectives."

"We have today eliminated the worst threat to peace and security in the Middle East. Sheikh Yassin is the personal executioner of hundreds and hundreds of Israelis who have lost their lives in terrorist activities. Israel knows that there might be some tension but in the long run we have served the cause of peace and security in our region."

STORYLINE:
Hamas has warned of harsh retaliation for Israel's killing of the militant group's spiritual leader, Sheik Ahmed Yassin.
Abdel Aziz Rantisi said it would be an "open war" and Ismail Haniya, said " Palestinians will turn into a volcano of hell in the face of this aggressive enemy. "
An Israeli Government spokesman,
Avi Pazner, said by killing Yassin, they had "eliminated the worst threat to peace and security in the Middle East."
