🔴What is Negishi-Ryu Shurikenjutsu?
Negishi-Ryu Shurikenjutsu is the only surviving classical (Koryu) martial arts school that specializes in Shuriken. Koryu refers to martial arts schools founded before the Meiji Restoration, during the era when samurai still existed.
Negishi-Ryu preserves not only the techniques of throwing Shuriken but also the etiquette and movements based on the social norms and clothing of samurai from that time.

🔴Frequently Asked Questions
Q: What should I use as a target for shuriken practice?
A: Traditionally, tatami is used—but alternative materials are also acceptable.
In Japan, shuriken training is traditionally done using rolled tatami mats as targets. However, we understand that tatami can be expensive or hard to find in some areas. For that reason, the headmaster has approved the use of alternative materials, such as the ones listed below.
Corrugated cardboard sheet set – Affordable and lightweight, works well when stacked for shuriken targeting. Safe and easily replaceable.
High‑density EVA foam sheet – Smooth, flexible, high-density EVA foam; great for indoor setups and won’t nick your shuriken.
Bodymaker martial arts floor mat – Durable, foldable martial arts mat suitable for training spaces—ideal for absorbing impact safely.
⚠️ Please do not use hard surfaces like wooden boards, as they can damage your shuriken.
Q: How much space do I need for shuriken practice at home?
A: Just enough width to stretch out your arms, and 2–3 meters of distance from the target.
Even a narrow hallway can work! While advanced training requires throwing from distances up to 10 meters, beginners will start from shorter ranges to focus on proper form and fundamentals.
Q: I’ve never done Shuriken before. Can I still join?
A: Absolutely! No experience is required.
Kurosawa Sensei will carefully guide you step-by-step, no matter your level. Plus, you can always catch up by watching past lesson videos.
Q: What kind of Shuriken should I use?
A: Please purchase Shuriken from our official website: https://asayamaichidenryu.shop/produc...
Not all Shuriken are suitable, so make sure to get the correct ones. Details can be found on the product page.
Q: Can I start even if I don’t have the training clothes yet?
A: You don’t need anything to begin lessons.
Even if you don’t have Shuriken yet, there’s still plenty you can practice—so no problem at all! However, to participate in online performances, Dan exams, tournaments, and training camps, you will need a Dōgi, Hakama, and an inner Obi. Please be sure to prepare them in advance if you plan to join these events.
Q: I already belong to a different Ryuha. Can I still join?
A: Yes, that’s no problem at all.
Kurosawa Sensei has trained in more than five styles and welcomes everyone. If you’d prefer to stay private, you can keep your camera off during the lessons.
