The idol of Jagaddhatri of Chasapara Barowari is the oldest one in Krishnagar and is well-known as ‘BURIMAA’. The Jagaddhatri Puja at Chasapara Barowari was started in 1772 followed by its beginning at The Royal family of Krishnagar Rajbari the Jagaddhatri Puja in Krishnagar takes place on the ‘Sukla Nabami’ day of Bengali month ‘Kartik’ and is one day’s celebration. The idol of ‘BURIMAA’ is being adorned with huge amount of gold and silver ornaments in the previous (whole night) night of the Puja . Ornaments of ‘BURIMAA’ are kept inside the locker of a local bank and as ritual those are brought back to ‘Chasapara Barowari’ from the bank by the devotees with Police protection and a long procession of 101 (aprox.) Drummers (Dhaki) with the beat of drums in the same rhythm in the afternoon on the previous day of puja. On the next day of puja ( on ‘Dashami’ , the day of immersion of deity) , at the immersion ghat , all the ornaments are untied from the idol of ‘BURIMAA’ by the devotees before the immersion of ‘BURIMAA’ in the river ‘Jalangi’ and are sent back to the locker of the local bank under police protection. On the day of Puja Polao Bhog is prepared at ‘Burimaa Bhawan’ with Quintals of Gobindo Bhog Atap rice and is served to thousands of devotees. On the same day , ‘Annomahotsav’ is organized.
In Krishnagar ‘Jagaddhatri Puja’ is a one day’s festival. According to the ritual , from the daybreak ‘Saptami Puja’ , ‘Astami Puja’ and ‘Nabami Puja’ take place at an interval of an hour or less or few hours on the same day. ‘Dashami Puja’ takes place on the next day and with the immersion of the idol, Jagaddhatri Puja marks the end of the festival. But before reaching the immersion ghat of river ‘Jalangi’ , all idols of Goddess Jagaddhatri in Krishnagar are brought to the Royal Palace of Krishnagar (Krishnagar Rajbari) following the ritual of Jagaddhatri Puja in Krishnagar.
