I've tried to assemble as short of a video as possible while still providing the ground work to understanding why a shifter may or may not be compatible with a derailleur.

There are other considerations to think of besides shifters/deraileurs, like chain width, cassette, derailleur capacity, etc. Those are topics for a later date.

Be mindful. It's a guide, not an absolute certainty. Use your brain, and you'll be fine. Consider everything.
