Welcome to my guide to Petri fast fifties. Originally called Kuribayashi, from Tokyo, Japan, Petri sold a surprisingly wide range of 50mm and 55mm lenses for their SLR cameras between 1959 and the late 1970s.

You may never have heard of Petri before, but they used to popular among amateur enthusiast photographers around the world, before the company went bankrupt in 1977. Unfortunately, there are no complete lists of Petri fast fifties, and that's something I've tried to address in this video.

Many of Petri's fast fifties are fascinating in their own right, and some are amazingly interesting and special performers, fully of character. Especially the way the lenses render out of focus areas - bokeh - wide open.
