The Quarter Pony is a small but powerful breed developed in the United States, closely related to the famous American Quarter Horse. It was created to provide a smaller, more manageable version of the Quarter Horse — ideal for younger riders and beginners — while keeping the same athletic ability, strength, and calm temperament. The breed became officially recognized in the mid-20th century, when pony breeders began selectively breeding smaller Quarter Horses and crossbreeding them with other pony types that shared similar characteristics.
