হবিগঞ্জে বন্যার পানি বেড়েছে। জেলার ৯টি উপজেলার মধ্যে আজ সোমবার পর্যন্ত ৬টি উপজেলার ৩২টি ইউনিয়ন প্লাবিত হয়েছে। এদিকে জেলার কুশিয়ারা নদী ও খোয়াই নদের পানি বৃদ্ধি পেয়ে বিপৎসীমার ওপর দিয়ে প্রবাহিত হচ্ছে। কুশিয়ারা নদীর নবীগঞ্জ অংশের বাঁধে নতুন করে ভাঙন দেখা দিয়েছে। এ পরিস্থিতিতে নতুন নতুন এলাকা প্লাবিত হচ্ছে বলে জানিয়েছে পানি উন্নয়ন বোর্ড (পাউবো) ও জেলা প্রশাসন।

আজ বেলা তিনটা পর্যন্ত হবিগঞ্জের খোয়াই নদের পানি বিপৎসীমার ১২৯ সেন্টিমিটার ওপর দিয়ে প্রবাহিত হচ্ছে। কুশিয়ারা নদীর হবিগঞ্জ অংশে পানি বৃদ্ধি পেয়ে বিপৎসীমার ১৪৭ সেন্টিমিটার ওপর দিয়ে প্রবাহিত হচ্ছে। এ ছাড়া গত ২৪ ঘণ্টায় এ জেলায় ৪৫ দশমিক ৫০ মিলিমিটার বৃষ্টিপাত হয় বলে জানায় জেলা পাউবো।

Nabiganj Upazila Executive Officer Sheikh Mohiuddin said about 50 villages in 4 unions of the upazila have been flooded. Thousands of people have been stranded. About 1,000 people have already taken shelter in 12 shelters. Necessary medicine along with dry food has been provided to them. He urged all to stand by the flood-hit people.

Minhaj Ahmed Shovon, Sub-Divisional Engineer (AD) of the Water Development Board, said the water level in Kushiyar has been steadily rising. New villages are being flooded as a result of overflowing water from the river embankment. The villages of Dighalbagh, Inatganj, Bara Vakair, Aushkandi Union are being flooded.

Nabiganj Upazila Chairman Fazlul Haque Chowdhury Selim said, “As the water is rising, we have no choice but to rely on Allah.” If the rain stops upstream, I can see a little light. But we are all working in the field.

According to the upazila administration sources, many people are standing by the people for the sudden flood situation in Nabiganj along with the government in private, corporate and social initiatives. However, the Upazila Nirbahi Officer urged everyone to coordinate for providing assistance. The government has provided 5,500 kg of rice, 150,000 taka of baby food and 50,000 taka of cow food for about 1,000 people in 12 shelters. Preparing dry food packages.

According to district administration sources, many villages in Nabiganj as well as Ajmiriganj upazila are being flooded due to rising water level of Kushiyara river. More than 2,000 people have also taken shelter in the shelters. As of Sunday morning, several new villages had been flooded. 13 shelters have been opened in Nabiganj, 15 in Lakhai and 21 in Ajmiriganj for the flood affected people. Adequate dry food, medicines, candles and matches have been stockpiled to help the affected people. A monitoring cell has been opened in the deputy commissioner’s office. All the upazilas are being contacted all the time, meetings are being held.

According to the Water Development Board, the water level of various rivers including Kushiyara and Kalni is increasing due to continuous rains and hill slopes coming down from the upper reaches. Kushiyara water is entering Haore through several points including Kaiyar Dhala of Ajmiriganj Upazila and Kushiyara Dyke of Nabiganj Upazila. More than 50 villages have already been flooded.
