Jivitputrika!

Jivitputrika is a significant Hindu festival celebrated primarily in Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, and Nepal. It is observed on the third day of the Shukla Paksha (bright fortnight) in the month of Ashvin (September-October).

Significance:

Jivitputrika is dedicated to the worship of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati, seeking their blessings for the long life and well-being of children, especially sons.

Rituals:

1. Fasting (Nirjala Vrata): Devotees observe a strict fast from sunrise to sunset.
2. Puja: Offerings are made to Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati.
3. Worship of the "Jivitputrika" plant (a type of grass).
4. Charity: Donations are made to the poor and needy.

Legend:

The festival is associated with the legend of Savitri and Satyavan. Savitri, a devoted wife, pleaded with Lord Yama (the god of death) to restore her husband's life. Moved by her devotion, Lord Yama returned Satyavan's life, and hence, Jivitputrika is celebrated to commemorate this miracle.

Regional Variations:

Jivitputrika is also known as:

1. Jitiya (Bihar)
2. Jivitputrika Vrata (Uttar Pradesh)
3. Jimutavahana (Nepal)

Greetings:

"Jivitputrika ki shubhkamnayein" (Best wishes on Jivitputrika)
