In this video, I'll teach you how to describe things and people. We are going to revise the verb ser (to be) and study the most common adjectives in the Portuguese language.

To describe something, we use the verb to be and an adjective. An important detail about adjectives in Portuguese is that they must agree with the noun. That is, if the noun is masculine, the adjective must also be masculine. If the noun is plural, the adjective must also be in the plural form.

For example:
A menina é bonita.
O menino é bonito.

A menina is a feminine noun, so the correct adjective is bonita.
O menino is a masculine noun, so the correct adjective is bonito.

Let's see examples in the plural form:

As meninas são bonitas.
Os meninos são bonitos.

Note that to form the plural of nouns and adjectives, simply add the letter s at the end.

As a rule, adjectives ending in a are feminine and adjetives ending in o are masculine, but there are some exceptions. Some adjectives have only one form, that is, the same adjective works for both genders, as it's the case with the word intelligent.

For example:
A menina é inteligente.
O menino é inteligente.
As meninas são inteligentes.
Os meninos são inteligentes.
