Country artist Scott Coner and rock/pop vocalist Carol Chase have teamed up for a new music video of the classic Procol Harum hit, "Whiter Shade of Pale". Coner, who has recorded several classic rock covers in the past, says he discovered the song in the early 1980s on the soundtrack for the movie "The Big Chill". It's been a favorite ever since.

Scott Coner:

"Our new video, 'Whiter Shade of Pale' began today. Honestly, I have been a little bit apprehensive with this song. First of all, I have very strong feelings for the original recording. There is just something both powerful and magical in that package. Secondly, the mix was a step away from my sound. It was actually mixed without me in the building, something I never would have allowed. But, Carol Chase was just as involved in the song as I was, and she took charge of getting it done while I was in Florida. The end result was something softer and more gentle I think. A very thick sound with an adult contemporary edge is what I hear, and it has grown on me. I have always had a tendency to place each instrument apart and go for a clear, “big” sound. Even if I’m doing a classic country song, I stay in this mindset. Early on in life, I kind of fell in love with bands that showcased their drummer. Bands like Mellencamp, Zeppelin, and even Aerosmith always worked for me. I love the way AC/DC gets such a basic, dry sound with their drums. I don’t know, I suppose I am a creature of habit. But this mix was good for me. It kind of forced me to trust someone else for a change and let them pursue what they heard for a change. All in all, I am happy with the end result. I feel like we paid proper respect to the original recording but still allowed for a new approach that was a combination of today and yesterday. I hope people like the song. I mean, how could you not like this freaking song? Besides, Carol Chase is pretty awesome!"

"Whiter Shade of Pale" follows the release of a music video for "Maybe She Lied", a hit duet featuring Scott Coner and country singing legend Tanya Tucker. The "Maybe She Lied" video has been downloaded almost 250,000 times at   / scottconermusic  . The song hit number one on the United Kingdom's Hot Disk Top 40. Scott also has recorded with country legends T. Graham Brown and Charlie Daniels. Other songs, including "Sanibel" (a duet with Brown) and "Reedy's Dream" (with vocal and instrumental contributions from Daniels), have been heard on terrestrial and online radio stations around the world. Also an emerging author, Scott recently penned the book "Lynyrd Skynyrd: Ronnie Van Zant and Me" with Gene Odom, a survivor of the Lynyrd Skynyrd plane crash.
