Well my friends, here we are, the end of the Eviternity II soundtrack, and the conclusion to my biggest ever contribution to a Doom project. Thank you all again so much for your kind comments, playthrough videos, reactions to the WAD.
Since Eviternity 1's final map used a non-MIDI music track, we knew from the start that we would do the same again for the sequel. My track for the Archangelus fight was purely orchestral and generally quite sinister in tone, so for The Origin's theme I wanted to take a different direction, with more of a symphonic metal sound and more emphasis on emotion, the conclusion of the journey started over five years ago.
Once I had the main section at the beginning done, I was able to make a start on MAP02's MIDI, since I wanted it foreshadow this piece - the naming of both tracks is also deliberately twisted, ending the soundtrack with "The Origin," named after the boss itself, and beginning (sort of) with "End of the Line."
In the end I didn't have nearly as much time as I would have liked to work on this, especially with non-MIDI tracks inherently taking more time to produce, but I managed to structure it in such a way that I could get it done as quick as possible given how much else I was having to do in the last few months. The track also borrows from the Archangelus theme, taking the cello line from the beginning, forcing it into 4/4 and using that as a main riff.
The 6/8 section was written on the bass before I'd set any of that up and I didn't realise how fast it actually was at tempo, so recording this was horrible and I can barely play it on guitar so when it came to filming this video, I just.. didn't, lol.
Speaking of recording, I was right up to the last day with this track, with only about 60% of it written by December 9. I didn't know how to finish the piece until Jimmy suggested repeating the main section, but now in the new 6/8 time signature. This turned out so damn cool and absolutely saved the track, I'm not sure what we would have done otherwise, probably just used the Archangelus track as a placeholder?
Even then, I was out of time and still had to write the MAP14 MIDI. The track was done, but none of the instruments were recorded except for the second solo. The track was later updated for RC3 with the rest of the instruments recorded, and made a lot louder in game since we found the sound effects of the fight completely drowned it out.
It's weird to think it's nearly 2 years since I filmed anything for the channel, the last ones were the Elementalism videos. Finally I can show off the fretless bass I've had since the end of 2021 but hadn't had the chance to feature it in a video :) You'll be seeing and hearing a lot more of this in the future!
And that's all! Thanks once again everyone for listening. I have a lot of stuff planned for the nearish future including the non-MIDI album of all my evi2 tracks, a standalone album (codename Voyager 2), more Doom MIDIs, and so on. It won't be a year until you hear from me again :)
