Randy sings Point of Light, talks about Barbara Bush

Описание к видео Randy sings Point of Light, talks about Barbara Bush

This is Randy Travis on TNN's Nashville Now show, June 7, 1991, singing Point of Light just a few weeks after its release, and then afterwards talking movingly about having recently performed the song for George and Barbara Bush and their emotional response. President Bush had spoken of "a thousand points of light" in his inauguration speech and had formed a Points of Light Foundation. Then Randy talks in his earnest straightforward way about the message of the song and gets a big hand from the audience.

Interestingly, at one point Randy says he was asked by Bush aide Sig Rogich to record the song (and jokes that "it's hard to turn down that request.") According to the New York Times, the song had been written by Nashville songwriters Don Schlitz and Thom Schuyler at Rogich's request. Wikipedia says Schlitz and Schuyler were "commissioned" to write it.

Ralph Emery was the usual host of Nashville Now back then but was on vacation and Charlie Chase was filling in.
