Alan D. L. Sihoe, MBBChir, FRCSEd, FCSHK, FHKAM, The University of Hong Kong, Pokfulam, Hong Kong, discusses recent advances in minimally invasive video-assisted thoracic surgery (VATS). VATS has not only improved individual patient outcomes, including reduced pain and quicker recovery time, but has also reduced surgical access trauma such that curative lung cancer surgery is more broadly achievable with respect to age and comorbidities. Dr Sihoe additionally notes advances in keyhole surgery, as well as surgery with robotic assistance. This interview took place during the virtual European Lung Cancer Congress 2022.
