Madan Mandari Highway, which is built between the inner Madhesh ie Chure and Mahabharat, can be considered a great achievement in terms of physical development.
The main objective of this highway is to provide a permanent access and connect the important quarry areas within the Churiya region and inner Terai valleys. It extends east-west and in the north of Mahendra Highway. This highway is to be developed as an industrial corridor connecting main cities in the country such as Dharan, Gaighat, Hetauda.
The idea of an alternative highway seems to have taken shape after the Madhesh movement and blockade politics of the 2072 B.S.In this same mess, political activists of Ilam, Sindhuliand Udaypur gathered and formed the Ilam-Sindhuli Mahabharata and Chure Area Roads Committee.
From the Hetaunda of Makwanpur to the Bashaha of Udaypur, called the eastern section of the Madan Bhandari highway, the road department has divided the project into four sections. Hetauda Project Office looks after Hetauda-Bagmati 48.6 km section, Sindhuli-West Bagmati 66.4 km, a total of 115 km West Bagmati.
Under the Hetauda project, the work on the Hetauda section appears to be smooth, out of the two sections Hetauda-Bagmati and the Sindhuli-Bagmati. Although much of the road's elevation has gone through Chure ditches, the Chure hills have been cut in some places.
With this physical development flow of human increases, market expands, and the traffic congestion might have adverse effects on Chure. Growth of human settlements will definitely affect the forest. Currently the settlement around the region is less dense, but with road developments, it is sure to increase, as it has already started.
Considering the fact that the southern foot of Chure, also called as Bhaabar zone, is a corridor of wildlife, construction of wildlife corridor needs to be kept at high priority. Chure is considered a terrain most vulnerable to landslides, floods and erosion. The government has established Chure Development Committee giving high priority to the protection of Chure.
