This is my drum cover of "Shed" from Meshuggah's concept album, Catch Thirty-Three (C33), released in May of 2005. In my opinion, the level of composition and overall orchestration on this album (or continuous song, rather) are both remarkable. Furthermore, the lyrical content fits beautifully with the musical direction of the album. Personally, I think that Jens Kidman's best vocal performance as a whole is C33 (although it's quite difficult to ignore his performances on songs such as Concatenation, Rational Gaze, Dancers to a Discordant System, and Demiurge, just to name a select few among many others).

When I first listened to C33 in its entirety, "Shed" became an instant favorite. I've always gravitated towards heavy tom-oriented patterns on the drums, and this track has plenty of them. As a result, the learning process (strong emphasis on "process") for this piece was definitely enjoyable. Similar to my previous cover, I did my best to utilize elements from Tomas Haake's live performance of this song while incorporating my interpretation of the original drum parts from the album. I will say that attempting this cover has been a very good experience, but I will also say that learning these drum parts has been a rather humbling experience. Tomas Haake's skills and creativity can really make you question your own skills and creativity. At any rate, thanks for watching and I hope you enjoy it!
