Driving in Norway: Riksvei 7 from Vøringsfossen Waterfall to the Hardangerbrua

Описание к видео Driving in Norway: Riksvei 7 from Vøringsfossen Waterfall to the Hardangerbrua

In this video you can drive along on Riksvei 7 from Vøringsfossen waterfall to Hardangerbrua or the Hardanger Bridge. Riksvei 7 is a well-known road in Norway, connecting the capital of Oslo with the western Fjord area of Norway. It crosses the Hardangervidda National Park and plateau.

I included some footage of the impressive Vøringsfossen, a 183 meter high waterfall with a single highest drop of 145 meters. It's located right off Riksvei 7 between Eidfjord and Hardangervidda. Currently there is some construction going on to expand the walking way alongside the cliffs as well as the rest area since it's quite popular with tourists.

They did a really great job in creating the already existing walkways and bridges with breathtaking views of the waterfalls and their surroundings. Some of the angles, as you can see from the footage I included, are crazy. What's also crazy, is that Vøringsfossen is 'only' the 83rd highest waterfall in Norway.. What makes it impressive though is the combination of free fall and volume of water.

In this video we drive down to Eidfjord and then alongside the Hardangerfjord towards the Hardangerbrua. Brua is Norwegian for bridge. You can see the area is popular with tourists as large cruise ships dock in Eidfjord and then take tourists up to the waterfalls and further sights in the area by tourbus.

The Hardangerbridge is a tolled suspension bridge and was finished less than 10 years ago, in 2013. The massive bridge has a maximum height of 201 meters (clearance below = 55 meters) and a length span of 1310 meters. It took about 4 years to build the bridge, starting construction in 2009. On both sides you immediately enter a tunnel portal, so all together it's a pretty impressive piece of infrastructure. Crossing isn't cheap either, one-way will set you back about 12 Euros I believe.

The bridge had a big impact on traffic though, now significantly shortening the traveling time between Oslo and Bergen, the country's two largest cities. Alternative routes take longer and back in the day there was probably a ferry connection. At the end of the video I included some (drone) footage of the bridge.
