In this video, I share my personal experiences with learning German and emphasize the importance of thinking and speaking in German. I tell humorous stories of my challenges and misunderstandings to show why it is important to use German directly in your head instead of constantly translating. I also give practical tips on how to practise thinking in German by thinking through everyday situations in the target language. I also show how to improve speaking, for example by talking to yourself, tandem partners or reading out loud.
