A BANKING APP THAT SPEAKS THE KID'S LANGUAGE

Adults struggle to manage their finances, but they want to see their kids grow up as successful people with good financial habits. At the same time, half of the parents don't know how to discuss finances with kids in an understandable and enjoyable way, besides, this leads to conflicts that ruin family relationships.

What if an app could help parents ensure their kids' financial future?

UXDA challenged themselves to rethink financial services… make them "speak" the kids' language. This is our vision of kid's banking that prepares children for the digital economy, takes care of their future and helps parents.

As a result - a vital banking app concept was born that offers support to families worldwide, combining the elements of game, joy, fun and finance.

It took a year to craft this research-based kids' banking app concept that actualizes the financial discrimination against children. It's a single app with a huge impact:

It speaks the kids language, educating them about financial literacy;
Prevents fights about money matters and improves family relationships;
Creates a good foundation for kids' financial futures, and
Ensures a successful inclusion of children in the modern digital economy.

THE STORY BEHIND THE KIDS BANKING APP

For centuries, we haven't forced children to use the same stuff as adults, but unfortunately, finance still discriminates against children. Most banks do not have special products suitable for children, while the apps already available on the market struggle to serve the real problems families face regarding financial literacy.

RESEARCH: ADDRESSING THE CONFLICT BETWEEN PARENTING AND FINANCE

We started with an in-depth exploration of the struggles families and kids face.

During the research phase, we found out what's causing the most significant trouble and how the current services fail in delivering up to the needs and expectations of parents and children.

We addressed and solved their problems by creating a thought-through UX architecture for the app and turning that into a breathtaking design with 3D and gamification elements.

THE DESIGN: STEPPING INTO THE SHOES OF CHILDREN

The goal of the design was to add joy, excitement and friendliness to banking, encouraging kids to let their eyes shine while using the app.

We needed to integrate a visual language that is understandable for kids, create an association that finances are like a game that evokes positive emotions.

It was extremely challenging to awaken the kids' viewpoint inside all of us. We dove into the kids' world of mobile games, children movies and cartoons, carefully studying how the content was made, what elements stood out and why kids like them.

Based on the field research, we concluded that we need to evoke emotions that feel like an adventure, like an amusement park where kids are excited about trying new things.

We needed to look outside of the traditional way of how we are used to making designs. We knew that would not be an easy task, and we needed to try hard to achieve our goal. Using animated 3D, we achieved the effect of emotions and dynamic environments that we wanted to make feel alive.

RESULT: BANKING THAT FEELS LIKE A GAME

We tested the concept on kids and they were thrilled! Here's some the feedback we got from them:

"Is it a game?"
"I want to play this game!"
"Looks like a game, not a bank."
"I would like to have such an app."
"Looks like it's made of plasticine!"
"This is like a quest. Cool!"

We were over the moon that we had reached our goal of turning banking into a game and evoking positive emotions and excitement in kids.

After seeing their kids so excited during the testing session, parents said that they would like to have such an app in their family. They had grown tired of disagreements and said that such an app would help maintain peace and have a transparent overview over family finances.

Huge unrealized potential lies in the future customers of banks - the kids. Unfortunately, the banking solutions available aren't suitable for their needs and perception. With this design concept, we hope to inspire the financial industry to dedicate more focus to this matter, demonstrating that the true impact of financial design goes well beyond the level of UI. In fact, it's truly capable of changing lives!
