Unwilling Hosts: How the Wilmot farmland grab is destabilizing the local economy

Описание к видео Unwilling Hosts: How the Wilmot farmland grab is destabilizing the local economy

The Region of Waterloo is trying to assemble 770 acres of Class 1 farmland in Wilmot township that will be rezoned and made shovel-ready for industrial use. This farmland grab is happening at the urging of the Ford government, including funding the purchase and/or expropriation. There has been plenty of local opposition as Wilmot residents make it clear that they are unwilling hosts for an industrial factory. Even farmers who are outside the land assembly area are worried that they could be next.

I met with local farmer Eva Wagler, Ontario Federation of Agriculture director Mark Reusser, and #FightForFarmland's Alfred Lowrick to discuss how this reckless, government-funded farmland grab is destabilizing the local economy.
