ITV News Tyne Tees has learned that a police force has ruled out referring itself to an independent watchdog, after ammunition was found at the County Durham home of killer Albert Dryden - despite them saying other weapons had been removed from the premises almost 30 years ago.

Durham Police had removed a quantity of weapons from his property when Dryden was jailed for life in 1991 for shooting dead a council officer. After his death in September, more ammunition was discovered leading to parts of the area having to be cordoned off. Residents are now demanding action and have written to the Chief Constable.
