We are almost an entire month in the fire academy, and recruits begin learning forcible entry. One technique the recruits learn is the gap, set, force technique using a Halligan tool.

Recruits size up the door first. Then, recruits drive the wedge between the door and the door frame until the gap is achieved. They place an axe to save the gap. Recruits begin forcing the adz and spike end of the Halligan until the entry is gained.

They move on to basic hose operations and learn how to move the hose throughout the building.
