Welcome to the Oriental Buddhist Theme Park in Leshan, Sichuan Province, a sacred space filled with awe-inspiring sculptures and carvings that celebrate the rich history of Buddhism. Our spiritual journey begins at the entrance, where the first sight is the breathtaking Giant Lying Buddha, a 170-metre-long carving that stretches across the mountainside. This monumental sculpture symbolises the peaceful state of Buddha in nirvana and sets the tone for the serene yet exciting adventure ahead.

As we move forward, we encounter the Relief Sculpture Wall of Buddhist Legends. This intricately detailed wall vividly narrates the life of the Buddha, from his birth to his enlightenment and final departure from this world. The carvings invite contemplation, offering visitors a visual journey through the key moments in the life of one of history’s most revered spiritual leaders.

Our path then leads us to the Longmen Giant Buddhas, a series of magnificent Buddha statues carved directly into the mountainside. As we admire these masterpieces, we enter the Arhats Hole, a mysterious underground corridor. The walls here are covered with delicate carvings depicting significant figures and stories from Buddhist tradition. Walking through this sacred space, we are transported deeper into the spiritual essence of the park.

At the end of this corridor, we arrive at the Buddha Art Gallery, where stunning artwork showcases the artistic representation of Buddha and other Buddhist figures. The gallery is a peaceful stop, offering a quiet moment to reflect on the spiritual beauty of these artistic creations.

Next, we continue to the Underground Palace, where the journey becomes even more profound. The first hall we enter is the Four Heavenly Kings Hall, filled with towering statues carved directly from the stone. These kings, protectors of the world in Buddhist cosmology, stand as mighty guardians at the entrance to the sacred space.

Our awe grows as we reach the 33-metre-tall Sitting Buddha, a statue so grand that it seems to watch over the entire palace. Carved from the mountain, this statue is a highlight of the park and fills the air with a sense of reverence and tranquillity.

Venturing westward within the Underground Palace, we arrive at the Pharmacist Buddha Cave, where a giant standing Buddha with human-sized toes greets us. Standing on a platform, we gaze down at the incredible height of the Buddha’s head. The view is both humbling and impressive, as we witness the sheer scale of these ancient works.

The final leg of our journey takes us through a maze of corridors, each wall adorned with exquisite carvings, bringing Buddhist legends and teachings to life. Eventually, we arrive at the Big Buddha Pavilion, where a steep staircase challenges our courage. Descending the steps is no easy feat—it’s thrilling and a bit intimidating, yet it’s all part of this deeply spiritual experience.
