A message from Josh:

So I figured I’d make my way though the “To Be One With You” album in order every couple of songs.

Here’s Barreling. This song for the longest time was called ‘Don Pardo’ because the chords were written one morning in Malibu at the house the band was writing at the day the legendary Don Pardo died. I guess that would be August 18, 2014. I had the Rhythm Ace I’m using in this video sitting atop a piano and these chords were what came out right after reading that he had left us at age 96. Growing up, our house was an NBC house. I always made sure to leave the TV on 4 (KNBC in LA) when I turned it off. I was never told to, I just did. I felt like his voice was everywhere. Then around age 9 when I became an avid Saturday Night Live viewer, there he was every week. The Yankees also had a public address announcer called Bob Sheppard who lived until age 99 and worked up until pretty darn close to that. Here’s to people who have magical voices and people who just by going to work and being themselves, shape us in some way; people who bring enormous amounts of joy and comfort to us just by using their voices. We all have a voice.

The poor little drum box needs to be looked at because the tempo drifts pretty quickly these days which is why I had to record the beat into a loop pedal here. This was the first take and mostly just a framing test which I clearly didn’t do in the last video. This one had a nice carefree, slightly sloppy spirit to it. The next take I did was magic. It didn’t record. I tried a few more times, the moment passed. Getting one better than that second one was like castles in the air. This is a good way to start I think. Hope you’re all doing okay out there.
