Andrea Baldini [The Hurricane] Fencing Career Highlight

This is the story of ‘The Hurricane’ Andrea Baldini (ITA)

Baldini made his debut on the Italian Senior National Team at 19 years old (2004-2005 season). Showing quick promise, Baldini placed second at both the 2006 and 2007 World Championships.

In 2008, ranked World Number 1, Baldini qualified for his first Olympics. However, days before the Olympics, Baldini tested positive for the banned substance diuretic furosemide and was banned from competing at the Olympics and 6 months of the 2008-09 season.

In 2009, Baldini returned to competition, winning 2 World Cups, the European Championships and finally the World Championships in Antalya to end the season as World Number 1.

In 2012, the Italian men’s foil team anchored by Baldini won gold at the London Olympic games. Baldini retired in 2016 after competing at the Rio Olympics.
