We’ve had a lot of questions this week about whether it was worth going to Automation Fair or if in general any show like this is worth going to since you seem to be able to learn anything on the internet these days. The clear answer is yes.

And the main reason is it is one of the few opportunities to see and play with any piece of hardware you want to learn about. And if a question comes up then then Rockwell’s people are extremely knowledgeable. There are tons of sessions going on that you can learn about any particular product or subject that you want to.

So what about if you are a veteran in this industry, can you learn anything from going? Absolutely yes. In fact I went to some shows when I was younger and didn’t get nearly as much out of it as I do these days. The main reason is as we get gain more experience we have a tendency to narrowly focus on what we know. This is one of the few opportunities to immerse yourself in a potentially new type of technology without having to take on a job or purchase the hardware to do it.
