His mother, Martina Suarez, continues to seek justice for her son, expressing skepticism about the impact of a new crime bill that introduces harsher penalties for DUI offenses.

"He left my son laying there like a piece of trash, and I'm not going to let him be remembered like that," Suarez said.

Despite the new penalties, which will impose sentences of two to 25 years for a first offense and five to 25 years for a second offense, starting Jan. 1, 2026, Suarez believes they fall short of delivering justice.
