Generalizing the Gibbs-Appell formulation to the case of a rigid body, we solve for the equations of motion of a simple nonholonomic system. In a two-dimensional plane, we have a vertical rigid disk that rolls along the inside of a circular boundary under the influence of gravity. This problem will illustrate one of the many ways in which the Gibbs formulation is efficient despite being very neglected.
