The Virginia creeper sphinx moth is also known as the Grapevine Sphinx, the Myron Sphinx and the Hog Sphinx. Can be found across central and eastern North America, ranging from Maine south to south Florida, and west to North Dakota, Nebraska, New Mexico, and Texas; it also extends into Mexico.

Northern limit: Southern Ontario and Quebec, Canada.
Southern limit: South Florida.
Western limit: Parts of Texas, New Mexico, Nebraska, and North Dakota.

The life cycle of the Virginia creeper sphinx moth, Darapsa myron, includes the following stages:

Females lay small numbers of eggs in twos or threes on the underside of host plant leaves. The eggs hatch in about five to six days.

Larvae feed on the leaves of their host plants, which include Virginia creeper, grape, viburnums, and raccoon grapes. They hide on the midribs of the leaves and are active at night.

When fully grown, the larvae spin a loose cocoon made of silk and dried leaves on the ground.

Pupation takes place in the soil or leaf litter.

Adults emerge in the mid-afternoon and are most active between sunset and midnight.
They hover around flowers drinking nectar and are attracted to lights and sugar baits.
