Lesson Title: God Knows Me - David writes in the book of Psalms about how God made us and knows everything about us.

Foundational Building Block

WHO?
King David wrote Psalm 139. David was many things during his life—shepherd, giant-killer, harpist, warrior, king, poet. Perhaps most importantly, David is described in 1 Samuel as "a man after His [God's] own heart" (13:14).

WHAT?
A psalm is a poem set to music. A psalm is a song. The Israelites would have sung it in the temple, and likely, they would have played instruments too!

WHERE?
David, the second king of Israel, lived at the core of ancient Jerusalem. At this time, Israel was still a united kingdom, and Jerusalem was its capital.

WHEN?
It is likely that David wrote Psalm 139 while he was king of Israel. Years before when David was just a boy, the priest Samuel had anointed him as future king, but it wasn't until the death of Saul near 1000 BC that David became king.

WHY?
Worship is showing God all He is worth. It's telling God who He is and reminding ourselves who we are because of Him. David was a worshiper! He worshiped God in his highest highs and his lowest lows. We get to do the same!
