I talk about the 1931 Buick Series 90 coupe (technically a Mclaughlin-Buick Series 90), look closely at some of the details of its coachwork and straight eight engine, then take it for a brief spin in this Old Classic Car video.
1931 was the first year for Buick's legendary straight 8 engine, and three new engines in this configuration of different capacities were introduced. This car, the Series 90, has the 344 cubic inch straight 8, which equates to approximately 5.6 litres.
Various different body styles were offered by Buick for these classic cars - saloons, coupes and convertibles, this is a five-passenger coupe fitted to the long wheelbase Series 90 chassis. Transmission is a three-on-the-floor, with synchromesh on the top two gears, quite unusual for the time. Braking is drum brakes to all four wheels, with dual sidemounts (spare wheels set into the front wings/fenders).
