Thermal expansion is the tendency of matter to change its shape, area, and volume in response to a change in temperature.
Each material has a different response to the heat, which is characterized by its thermal expansion coefficient. The thermal expansion coefficient represents the amount that the material expands per each degree increase.

In this experiment, we heat one arm of the balanced scale. This leads to a change in length and as a consequence a rehashing in this direction.

Supplies Needed:

1. Cork
2. Spoke
3. Two needles or piece of wire
4. Balance (Carrots are preferable)
5. Candle
