State-run Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) has rolled out a Rs 65,000 crore tender for the implementation of the third phase of the BharatNet project, which is expected to provide an additional revenue stream for vendors such as Nokia, Ericsson, HFCL, Tejas Networks, among others.
The tender is part of the Centre’s ambitious Rs 1.39 lakh crore BharatNet project which aims to provide last-mile connectivity and upgrade existing 164,000 gram panchayats, as well as, connect 47,000 gram panchayats under the new model. BSNL has invited bids across 16 states and union territories (UTs), including Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, and West Bengal, among others.
These have been divided into two packages and two categories each. As per the tender document, under the qualification criteria, bidders can be a single entity or a group of entities. The minimum net worth required for submitting the bid for only one package is Rs 50 crore to 375 crore, depending on the state it is bidding for.
Likewise, the minimum annual turnover for the last three fiscals should be at least Rs 325 crore for only one package. The document also lays out technical requirements, under which, the bidder should have implemented OFC network construction projects and supplied at least 800 units of equipment such as routers, switches, and others, in the last 10 years, if bidding for one package under category two states.
