The square is divided into 2 parts by the main street of the city, Khreshchatyk.

A large number of attractions are concentrated here: a tall stele representing freedom, the Lyadsky Gate with a statue of Archangel Michael (patron of the city), the House of Trade Unions, the Central Post Office, the concert hall of the Conservatory, a bronze monument to the Cossack Mamai and etc.
