In 1942, the story of the Roopkund lake mystery begins. H K Madhwal, a British(Indian) forest ranger, was the first to discover a skeleton floating in a lake at a height of 16000 feet above sea level. It was initially thought to be part of a Japanese invasion force during World War II. As per Indian forest officials near lake about hundreds of human skeletons found inside and around Roopkund lake. He reported that a mysterious lake where between 300 to 800 people met their tragic end due to hailstorm – and the frigid Himalayas continued to preserve the human remains.
