Using Custom Functions is quite possibly one of the least used areas by newer FileMaker learners. The key to understanding the value of Custom Functions is not that they can be used just for actual functions, but rather to make your solution more robust and easier to maintain.

IMPORTANT NOTE: Around 34:50 • Lesson #10: The environment - Manage Custo... I state that a Custom Function can account for multiple contexts. Making it seem like the same underlying table constitues the same context. It does not represent the same context. Each Table Occurrence establishes its own context.

The point was that a Custom Function CAN account for multiple contexts in order to provide the same desired result. I hope this didn't confuse anyone.
