Filmmaker, novelist, and luminary Ousmane Sembène's work, which highlights Senegal's past and present in conflict, is slowly being reissued in English. I discuss a recent Criteron Collection box set of three of his films, which span centuries across Senegal's history and hold lessons for SF&F creators looking to other cultures for insights.
