Things to look out for with Measles:
Measles is a viral illness that unfortunately for us is really easy to catch. It is spread through the air –
so when someone who has measles coughs or sneezes out a load of measles virus, that virus can stay in the air for up to two hours afterwards. And anyone who is in the same room over those two
hours and breathes in the measles virus could be infected if they are not protected. The first symptoms of an infection are fever, tiredness, cough, runny nose and feeling unwell, so in
that way, at first it might seem like the usual cough or cold virus that we are all familiar with. One
thing that is usually different with measles at the beginning is that you can have red sore eyes as
well as all the other symptoms – and that doesn’t usually happen with other viruses.
