We’re following up our Talkie Walkie movie review of Roxanne with a walking tour of the iconic locations where the famous romcom movie🍿was filmed in the downtown core of Nelson, BC, Canada!

A map of some of our scenic walking tour locations can be found here at the Nelson Museum’s site: https://nelsonmuseum.ca/roxanne-walki...

We start at the fire hall uphill, where Steve Martin worked with his ragtag group of firefighters. Then, we head down the street where the hook-and-ladder truck drove with its ladder still up to the rock wall where Steve and Rick Rossovich discussed their dubious progress with Daryl Hannah.

Next, we turn up by the St.Saviours and United churches to the grey house where Steve consoled the young boy on the roof and later got the cat out of the maple tree across the street with a can of tuna.

From there, we zig-zag by the place where Sheri and Chris met before taking off out of town, over to the sloped sidewalk by lower Gyro Park where Steve beat up the bullies with his tennis racket, before rolling downtown past the Civic Theatre to the stony restaurant where Dixie’s pink neon cafe will always be in our hearts:)

Down Vernon Street is the Crowsnest Highway intersection with the Nelson Museum, the Rattenbury-designed courthouse, the utilitarian City Hall & the lovely heritage Hume Hotel.

Onwards is the mural of Steve as C.D Bales in his fire chief garb painted by the late great D.Dan, and after that are the steps up beside what many call the Cult Cafe to Baker Street and the spot where Bessie the promotional cow was in the barn, along with the gas station, the community gazebo & the sidewalk where Steve rants and raves about the idea to stage Oktoberfest in July;)

Cruising back down the main drag, we go by the taxidermy shop which disgusted Roxanne, the antique shop where Steve saw her through the window & the bookstore where Chris bought the Sartre book for Andy, outside which Steve hung out with the old ladies, before approaching Shelley Duvall and Daryl in their vehicle at the stoplight.

Lastly, we show you where the bus-stop is on the main drag, plus the drug store and faux entrance to the Vancouver-shot club -- which is now the museum!

We recorded these videos on the traditional, ancestral and unceded territory of Sinixt Peoples. We make this acknowledgment to show our respect for the tmxʷulaʔxʷ (homeland), and Sinixt Nation. We feel privileged and grateful to be here, and we invite those reading this to explore their own relationship to place.

We’re middle-aged adventure walkers who like to share our walking videos with you as we travel around, documenting our walks as ‘walkumentarians’. Please like, subscribe, buy us a coffee & ring that bell icon, so we can continue to make these realistic beauties as part of a long-form documentary on how life is now as we know it in 2024 — and counting! An ideal adventure walk for us middle-agers is one that offers a nice mix between nature and urban, without being too far, hilly, or extreme! If you have any questions about where we went on our walks, etc., please ask us in the comments:)

Right now, we’re in Nelson, BC, Canada, one of the country’s most underrated travel destinations in 2024, while still being a bit off the beaten path and a hidden gem of a small city by the lake under the mountain peaks! We’ve spent a lot of time in Nelson over the years, so we can show you the ins and outs of a secretly famous place, and check out our walking video shorts on our channel: @MiddleAgeAdventureWalks/shorts

About our channel: We’re middle-aged, but you don’t have to be to enjoy our real-life walking tours! Even at this point in life, it’s okay to start new things, as you never know when you start something where it can lead you. Our walking tours are a great way to relax, travel if you are not able to, see new things, go for a walk & more! For those wondering who we are, we can be seen in the reflections and shadows:)

Join us on peaceful scenic walks (and some not so peaceful!) through Mexican and Canadian cities, villages & nature on Indigenous Land. Every two to three days, we will share videos of our latest walk, which often take place in top travel destinations off the beaten path in hidden gems where tourists choose not to go. Our unique videos offer a serene and tranquil experience (most of the time!), with natural sound, raw footage and no background music or commentary, allowing you to fully immerse yourself in the calming (and not so calming!) ambience of nature and real life. Our goal is that through our camera you can discover the beauty of the Mexican pueblos and barrios and Canadian towns and neighbourhoods, while getting away from reality via virtual reality about reality. Thanks for watching MAAW!
