Udayana University Introduces Balinese Culture to Singaporean Students Through the Philosophy of Tri Hita Karana

The International Office Udayana University, in collaboration with Temasek Polytechnic Singapore, successfully hosted the International Workshop on Tri Hita Karana on May 14, 2025, at the Nusantara Auditorium, Sudirman Campus, Denpasar.
The event was officially inaugurated by the Rector of Udayana University, Prof. Ir. I Ketut Sudarsana, S.T., Ph.D., and welcomed 31 students and 2 lecturers from Temasek Polytechnic alongside 14 student volunteers from Udayana University.

This cultural exchange program aimed to deepen participants’ understanding of Balinese values and traditions through the lens of Tri Hita Karana—a Balinese life philosophy emphasizing harmony between people, nature, and spirituality. In his opening speech, the Rector expressed his strong support for the initiative and encouraged similar future collaborations to enhance Udayana University's global engagement and enrich students’ international exposure.

The workshop was divided into two key sessions. The first featured an insightful presentation by Dr. I Made Budi Arsika, S.H., LL.M., titled "Tri Hita Karana: Balinese Wisdom for Sustainable and Conscious Living." The talk explored how traditional Balinese philosophy offers a timeless framework for promoting sustainability and conscious lifestyles in modern society. The second session, "Nature’s Blessings: Crafting Balinese Fruit and Flower Arrangements," invited participants to experience hands-on cultural learning by creating traditional Balinese offerings using fruits and flowers an artistic expression of gratitude and harmony with the environment.

Through this workshop, participants not only gained cultural knowledge but also fostered intercultural friendships and a deeper appreciation of Balinese heritage. Udayana University hopes to continue expanding international partnerships that support cultural diplomacy and global academic collaboration.
