In Caught Stealing, director Darren Aronofsky trades his usual psychological intensity for a gritty crime thriller set in late-'90s New York City, a film that he describes as his love letter to the city. Adapted from Charlie Huston’s novel, the film delivers its action momentously, following Austin Butler as a former baseball player pulled into a violent spiral as he faces the criminal underworld lurking in the city.

At the center is Butler’s bruised and resilient Hank, but he is surrounded by a supporting cast that is just as fierce. The cast also features Zoë Kravitz, Matt Smith, Regina King, Griffin Dunne, Shaun O'Hagan, and more.

Ahead of the film's August 29 theatrical release, Collider's Steve Weintraub interviewed Smith and King about their roles in Caught Stealing. The pair share the messages they walked away from the film with and dive into why the unpredictability of the film made them accept their roles, as well as a desire simply to work with Aronofsky. Smith also reminisces about how the mohawk he sports for the film made people (and animals) treat him differently, while King reveals which iconic NYC confection she's not particularly a fan of.
