This webinar focused on the role of cash benefits in working toward the objective of ensuring equal participation and empowerment of people with disabilities and reviewed the diversity of pathways that countries have used to introduce and expand disability related cash transfers. It presented findings from an ILO publication analysing the design of 700 contributory and non-contributory statutory disability cash benefits with regards to their compliance with international standards in terms of eligibility criteria, benefit levels, benefit duration and compatibility with work. It also presented recent developments in inclusive design of non-contributory cash benefits and in the extension of coverage in Zambia, Egypt and the East Asia and the Pacific region.

This is the fifth webinar of the series “Towards inclusive social protection systems: participation and inclusion of persons with disabilities”. Following the adoption of the joint statement “Towards inclusive social protection systems supporting the full and effective participation of persons with disabilities” in 2019, a broad coalition of development partners, experts OPDs took part in a process facilitated by UNICEF, ILO and IDA with the support of the UNPRPD, the government of Norway and the European Commission to develop technical resources. The series is implemented jointly with these partners and funded by the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT). It will discuss some of the core modules of the guidance note on building more inclusive social protection systems.​
