Hiking the 160 km long Padjelanta Trail alone in the north of Sweden above the arctic circle.

Описание к видео Hiking the 160 km long Padjelanta Trail alone in the north of Sweden above the arctic circle.

Spent five days hiking the Padjelanta Trail (Padjelanta National Park) in the north of Sweden which is part of Laponia, a world heritage site. The trail starts in Ritsem with a short boat ride and ends in Kvikkjokk also with a short boat ride, so the actual hiking distans is about 135 km or 84 miles. I chose to hike north to south for no particular reason. That meant that I spent the last 1,5 days below the tree line in the Tarra valley which has a high density of moose and also predator animals such as brown bear, lynx and wolverine. However there is no reason to worry too much since they are all very shy and at least I would consider myself very lucky to come across one of those animals in the wild. I have never met or heard of anyone using bear canisters or anything of that sort in the swedish mountains since there are no black bears or grizzly which are common in the US and Canada.

There are huts along the way with a distance of 9-25 km (5-15 miles) apart where you can spend the night if you don't carry a tent. Huts inside the Padjelanta park is run by Badjelánnda Laponia Turism. Once down in the Tarra valley you are outside the Padjelanta park where STF (Swedish Tourist Association) once again run the huts.

I can highly recommend this trail. It is very very beautiful and I hope my video is able to do it some justice. It is also relatively fast or easy. The most rocky parts are down in the Tarra valley but in general this trail is less rocky compared to the more famous swedish trail Kungsleden.

Any questions please leave a comment below and I will try and answer :)
